Pál Lukcsics dealt with the Hungarian mercenaries in Italy in several studies between 1928 and 1932. In 1930 he read his lecture „The insignia of Hungarian knights fighting in Italy in the 14th century” at the November meeting of the Hungarian Heraldic and Genealogical Society, which he published with notes in Turul in 1931. In this paper, he described in detail the coats of arms of the Hungarian mercenaries who escaped from Mantua in 1361–1362. The authors re-examined the original charters and made photocopies of them during a research trip to the Archivio di Stato di Mantova in 2023. In this paper, the military history of the documents described by Lukcsics and the coats of arms of the Hungarian mercenaries are described.
